Bond has been set at $50,000 for a Monroe man accused of stabbing a woman while she shopped Friday at the Monroe Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Calling the crime a "random act of violence," Monroe police arrested Herman V. Staten Jr., 51, whose last known address is 321 Cedar St., Monroe, on one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Staten was apprehended just minutes away from the crime scene by Cpl. Sean Reddick of the Monroe police's warrants division, in the parking lot of the nearby Office Depot.

Maj. Don Bartley, chief of investigations, said the stabbing was reported to police by Wal-Mart officials at 1:04 p.m. Friday.

The victim, a 49-year-old Monroe woman, was leaving the cosmetics department and walking toward the toy department when she felt a sensation in her back, Bartley said.

She looked over and saw the suspect and asked him, "What did you just do to me?"

Staten looked at her and then just walked away and eventually out of the store.

The woman followed him for a period of time and got his description. At this time, she felt her back and noticed blood and contacted Wal-Mart employees, Bartley said.

The shopper was taken from the store by American Medical Response. She was sitting upright on a stretcher and was able to give police Staten's description before being whisked to St. Francis Medical Center.

As of press time, police said the victim was in stable condition but did not know the extent of her injury.

A spokesperson for the discount chain released the following statement.

"The safety and security of our customers and associates is always a top concern of Wal-Mart," Jami LaMontagme, Wal-Mart spokesperson, said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the customer and her family."

Bartley said while authorities were tending to the victim, Reddick noticed a man fitting the suspect's description, which helped in his swift capture.

"This lady realized she was stabbed in the back area for no apparent reason," Bartley said. "This is a random act of violence. It could have happened anywhere. It's just unfortunate that it happened at a Monroe business."

Detectives seized the surveillance tape, but the weapon used in the crime has not been located.

Staten was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center. His criminal history includes arrests for aggravated criminal damage to property, battery and battery on a police officer.

All this happend at the walmart i normally shop at...a few days later a woman was raped in this same walmart in the bathroom....its got my parents so scared now...i can't even go to monroe by myself -_-

Another case last year a 6 yr old boy was given aids while getting toliet paper in the men's stalls in a McDonalds in this same town...a note was inside found inside along with an infected needle after the boy reached inside and cut his hand....wtf is going on...why would people do this stuff!!! Im so glad i live an hour away from here in a nobody town.

Oh Sparkling of Mine

Chapter 3

Oh that recharge was just want Jazz needed. He felt good. All his kinks and aches had seemed to disappear with the cycle. He wanted to lay there in his berth all day, but he had to go to a meeting a then go pick up Bee from Elita. It was going to Bee a long meeting, which Prime had to attend to as well, which had left Elita with said sparkling duty. Jazz just hoped that Bee behaved. He would hate to have the two most powerful commanders at the base sore at his little guy.

He got up stretching his arms and legs to get his system flowing. A quick trip to the wash racks and he’d be ready to go to the “boreville meeting” as Sunny and Sides had called it. They usually cut-up and just had a mini-meeting of their own in the back. Normally Jazz would have been part of the twin’s antics, but today he felt as if he owed Prime his undivided attention. Oh yes, it was going to be a long day.

After his quick wash, he headed back to his room gathered his reports and headed to the commend center. By the time he got there the room was already packed. Prowl, Ironhide, Ratchet, Prime, and of course Sunstreaker and Sideswipe were there. They had saved him his normally seat in the back, but he waved them off and showed them he was going to sit up front by Prowl. He took his seat and soon after the meeting started. Jazz had been one of the first bots to give his report and now began to drift off as Prowl talked.

It wasn’t maybe a few minutes later that he was jolted awake by the doors of the commend opening to a streaking yellow dripping blur closely followed by an equally dripping Elita. She looked aggravated and quickly set her glare upon Jazz. He tried to disappear into his chair, but found it impossible. All eyes were on him. He grinned sheepishly. It was at that moment that Bee decided he wanted his daddy and jumped into his lap. Bee gave him a cute little smile and snuggled into his arms. Jazz couldn’t help himself. His fatherly pride shining through. “Ain’t he just the cutest?” He held little Bumblebee out toward Elita and her glare softed to a small smirk. “No ,He is just like you.” Lightly smacking Jazz on the back of his head.

okay so long story short my kat just had a litter of kittens again bringing my grand total up 9...there are 3 of them as far as i can see....she won't let me near them rite now.....lol...she is scared....i now have critters running out my ears....got start finding thems some homes....but i love them so much i don't know what to do....i have like a buttload of homework due in a couple days....i haven't even started on it....
